COMMUNICATION SKILLS WORKSHOP

November 23 – December 14, 2015, 7-9 pm

There are a couple of spots open for the upcoming Communication Skills Workshop.

Details:

1.  Location:  Suite 201, 626 Broadway Avenue (corner of 12th Street & Broadway Avenue at Five Corners)

2. Time:  7-9 pm

3. Parking:  There is parking all around our building on Broadway Avenue, 12th Street, Eastlake Avenue, University Drive and in the parking lot in front of The Roastery coffee shop.

4. Tea, water + snacks will be provided

5. Please dress in comfortable clothing as we will be sitting for two hours -- we will have a break half way through the evening.

6. Your participation in the group is at your discretion….some people ask more questions and some people are more quiet listeners….it is up to you how you want to participate.

This is what I would consider to be a psychoeducational group, which simply means I, and my co-facilitator, will be teaching communication skills and offering ideas about what works well in communication and what does not work so well.  Handouts will be provided throughout the four evenings.

Agenda:

a) Learning about two parts of the communication process:  i) effective ways to disclose information and ii) learning how to listen well.

b) Learning how body language can either hinder or help the communication process….learning to be mindful about body language and what it conveys to others…

c) Learning about the trouble spots of communication regarding problem solving and negotiation

d) Learning how to stay present and work with anxious feelings that arise when in difficult/uncomfortable conversations with people

e) Learning non-defensive and defensive communication

f)  Learning about the "amygdala hijack" and what happens in our brain when we get nervous/scared/fearful when communicating

g) Learning to create a safe environment that fosters open and honest communication

Please contact Barbara Morrison at:  Morrison@broadwaytherapy.ca or telephone 306.653.3232 to register.  Fee for workshop:  $200 (4 evenings, 2 hours each evening)
