Reckless and careless use of mental health labels

Reckless and careless use of mental health labels

Bi-polar.  Psychopath.  Sociopath.  Narcissist. Schizo.  Borderline.

The free wheeling use of mental health labels that one heaps upon another is reckless and careless.  There are individuals who have been diagnosed by competent health care providers with an actual mental health diagnosis.  These individuals engage in a treatment regime of therapy and possibly medication, depending on the diagnosis.  These are serious mental health issues.

But to use these terms pejoratively to describe another human being just because you don’t like what that person did or because you want to seek revenge, is mean-spirited and harmful.  Unless you want to be mean-spirited and harmful to another, you might want to think before vilifying another.
