Fall + Winter Workshops 2017/18 and Summer Fun

Both myself and Jennifer Schenn-Visentini will be offering workshops for the Fall + Winter 2017/18.  We are currently in the process of securing locations for our workshops and we will announce soon what we will be offering in the Fall and Winter.

In the meantime, enjoy the Summer season, whether you're travelling far away for an exciting adventure,  enjoying lake life in Saskatchewan or another Canadian province or whether you are staying close to home, enjoying this beautiful city.  For those of you staying in Saskatoon, here are some suggestions for you to partake in over the Summer:

  • Live outdoor theatre (well, in the tent) at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan
  • Prairie Lily cruise on the South Saskatchewan river
  • Live outdoor theatre for children offered by Sum Theatre (check out thier website:  www.sumtheatre.com) -- free theatre for children and families
  • Canoeing on the river
  • Cycling on the Meewasin Valley Trail (take a picnic with you) - there's miles of trails going south or north
  • Research day trips for hiking trails all throughout Saskatchewan
  • Saskatoon Fringe Festival (check out their website:  www.25thstreettheatre.org) -- while there is lots of outdoor markets and food, Fringe Festivals around the world showcase original plays from theatre groups around the world.  These artists apply and those accepted, travel the Fringe circuit....I have been attending the Saskatoon Fringe Festival for 27 years and usually see 15 plays.  The location is the Broadway District at various venues.
  • Saskatchewan Jazz Festival -- on now (as I write this, June 23, 2017) -- take in some great music -- free stage and also performances at various locations around Saskatoon
  • Patios for great food and beverages located around the city -- some of my faves:  Drift (on 19th St.), The Yard & Flagon (Broadway Ave.), Nosh (Broadway Ave.), Calories (Broadway Ave.), Hose & Hydrant (11th Street), City Perks (7th Avenue), D'Lish (Temperance Ave.)
  • Check out new coffee shops in various parts of the City -- research and see what you can find
  • Art Galleries -- same thing, research art galleries in the city -- there are lots and there is beautiful, original artwork by various artists
  • Craft Galleries -- check out Handmade House and Affinity Gallery at the Saskatchewan Craft Council (both on Broadway Avenue)
  • 33rd Street -- occasionally a new store pops up and I hope that more people decide to open new stores on this great street -- my faves:  Better Off Duds, Christies' Mayfair Bakery, The Whimsy Shop, Ambros Shoe Repair, Mayfair Hardware, Funk's Furniture (great ice cream shop inside)
  • Saskatoon has great parks all over the city (visit some new ones)
  • Cranberry Flats, Beaver Creek, Wanuskewin Heritage Park:  these are all a brief drive away -- and they are also great to cycle to if you want more of an adventure
  • Pike lake -- close to the city -- pool, lake with canoes and paddle boats for rent, food and picnic areas
  • Walk the train bridge -- if you haven't walked across this bridge to get a beautiful view of the river, this is something new to try - you can start either on the west or east side of the river
  • Check out golf courses around the city
  • Try one of the many new restaurants available all over the city -- research and try out some new ones
  • Check out Riversdale for art galleries, restaurants, cafes, watering holes, and some sweet shops with cool things to buy
  • If you haven't yet taken a walk or cycle by the new Remai Art Gallery on the north side of the river, you must -- start at the "Victoria" Bridge and make your way all the way down to the Canoe Club -- it's just so gorgeous to walk along the river, take photos and enjoy the curve of the South Saskatchewan river shining in the sunlight...stop for a coffee in Riversdale
  • Watch sunsets in the evening -- find the perfect location to watch the gorgeous Saskatchewan sunsets
  • Cycle around the University of Saskatchewan and find the sculpture garden if you haven't been there....so nice
  • Check out one of the many vintage shops in Saskatoon -- again, do your own research to see what you discover
  • Enjoy a drive in the country

There's lots more to discover -- be a tourist in your own city!

Enjoy the blue skies and warm weather....
