Agenda:

  • Learn the elements of skillful communication:  speaking and listening
  • Learn to consciously communicate your opinions, thoughts and feelings
  • Learn to consciously listen to someone else’s opinions, thoughts and feelings
  • Exploring body language and the impact of body language in the communciation process -- both positive and negative
  • Learn how to stop knee-jerk reactions that thwart effective listening:  learn about the "amygdala hijack" and why this is important to know in respect to communication
  • Learn how to stay in a conversation even when you feel emotionally threatened:  learning to get grounded in the body and mind
  • Learn how to recognize when you feel defensive:  what are the cues?
  • Learn how are compromise and negotiation different
  • Learn how skillful communication is different from debate
  • Learn how assumptions and interpretations lead to miscommunication and how to avoid these pitfalls
  • Learn how to be open to hearing all points of view if when they are different from yours
  • Learn how to understand that your own history will collide with the history of another

 

This one-day workshop will provide essential skills and learning to engage in conscious and skillful communication.  This workshop will be useful for anyone inerested in learning about effective communication, whether that be in personal or professional relationships. Information will also be useful for parent-child relationships.

Time:  9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Where:  The Refinery, 609 Dufferin Avenue, Saskatoon

Fee:  $250

Maximum 20 people

Tea and coffee will be provided, along with morning and afternoon snacks.  Please bring a lunch with you or if you prefer, there are many restaurants on Broadway Avenue.  Lunch break will be from 12:30-1:30.  There is a refrigerator and microwave for storing your lunch and warming up food.  Wear layered clothing to adjust for preference of temperature.
